Designed in response to the renovation
of an existing three storey dwelling on the
site, this harbour side terrace is viewed
largely from above.
A central pond separates a cantilevered
concrete walkway and a contemporary
parterre which mixes clipped hedges for
structure, native grasses and mosses for
texture, and monochromatic floral planting
for seasonal colour. A staggered hedge of
Italian Cypress on the southern boundary
provides screening from the neighbouring
building while not adversely affecting
light penetration. An aluminium, timber
and woven-wire pergola provides shelter
and privacy on the northern boundary and
a splash of colour from the bougainvillea
climbing over it.
The finished garden received an NZILA
award in the residential garden design category
2008.
