As part of improvements to the ring road
around Palmerston North’s city centre, the
Council and adjoining land owners have initiated
an upgrade to a two block section of
Ferguson Street.
MNLA analysed the existing urban pattern
to provide strategic design responses. Poor
articulation of vertical scale and edge treatments
were identifi ed as areas of potential
improvement.
Proposals include appropriate sized tree
planting, preservation of the cycle lane, and
a new central median with light poles and
banners. Land owners were also encouraged
provide landscape treatments inside the adjoining
sites to contribute to the project.
